A house full of whiskers 🐾
I live in a slightly unusual household: we are a foster family for cats, in partnership with rescue associations. Five resident cats, an energetic dog, and all the ones who stay with us for a while until they find their forever home.
Some spend their days sleeping in the bathroom drawer (yes, we've gotten used to it). Others come and sulk dramatically when they see the bottom of their kibble bowl getting dangerously close. They all have their own little personality, and that's what melts my heart.
Quite naturally, after watching them lounge in the sun, keep watch over an invisible bird or requisition my chair, I wanted to capture this everyday life in watercolour. ✨
From photo to watercolour
A photo is a frozen second. A watercolour is a presence. When you send me photos of your companion, I don't copy them: I look at them for a long time, I observe their gaze, their little habits, the way they are with you. Then I sit down with my brushes, my paper, my pans of colour, and I try to put all of that into a watercolour portrait.
It's slow, it's imperfect, that's exactly how it should be. Each piece is one of a kind, signed and dated by hand.
No AI, ever
At a time when computer-generated images are everywhere, I want to say it clearly: no image on this site is generated by artificial intelligence. Everything you see here is my tries, my finished pieces, my brushes, my mistakes, my fresh starts. My true colours.
And not just cats...

Your own companions have their little habits, their particular gaze, their way of being with you. That's what I try to capture when I paint a commissioned portrait: not just the look, but the character that shows through behind.
